Kaitlin Sandeno

Although she is known for her fun personality outside the pool, Kaitlin is all business between the lane lines. In the pool, Kaitlin:
- Won a medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney at age 17
- Qualified for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team in 4 of the 5 events she swam at Olympic Trials
- Returned from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens with three medals and a world record
Kaitlin's path to swimming success hasn't been easy. When she was just 12 years old, Kaitlin was diagnosed with asthma. Despite severe attacks, she continued training and competing. With new medication and more active care, Kaitlin's symptoms improved, and so did her swimming. Kaitlin wants to give hope to others with the condition, so she works to raise funds and build awareness about the dangers of asthma.
"Every swimmer knows the importance of breathing," says Kaitlin. "Nothing is worse than not being able to breathe. I just want people to know that you can control your asthma, and live your life to the fullest."
Toyota is proud to support Kaitlin not only in her achievements in the pool, but also in her commitment to helping others. By dedicating time to make a difference in her community,
Kaitlin Sandeno is an Engine of Change.
